We build community in a number of ways - small class sizes, all school events (a welcome social, the end of the year picnic, parent programs, parent/child events), classroom activities and playgroups planned outside of school. Many of our parents say that ORNS is like a big family.
A local yoga teacher, Stephanie Sutton of Move Out Loud, holds a yoga class with our children once a month.
We offer Spanish classes for children ages 3 and up twice a week. Marti Fechner, of Grow into Spanish, teaches 30 minute classes for ORNS children.
Parents are able to receive a tuition credit for helping the school in a variety of ways. Positions range from setting up the school gym equipment to assisting during lunch bunch. The program is a huge benefit for the school and a great opportunity for parents to share their talents with us.
ORNS is governed by a Board of Directors, which is made up of parent volunteers. The Board is divided into committees, responsible for various needs of the preschool - fundraising, social, public relations, marketing, building and grounds, room parent, and program. The Board plans many activities for our families throughout the school year - welcoming ice cream social, parent education nights, child/parent activities, an ORNS Olympics, an all-school picnic, and more!
Teachers create detailed lesson plans, newsletters, and photo sites for parents. They design their classrooms to spark children's interests and love for learning. All staff members do their best to get to know all the children in the school. Also, nine out of our fifteen staff members are either current or former ORNS parents: they loved the school so much they wanted to stay!
